According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), non-invasive procedures are up 5% in 2010. Are you a part of the statistic? Chances are your answer is yes. So who is getting these cosmetic procedures done and what are the most popular procedures?

Women, who made up the majority of the recipients of all surgical and nonsurgical procedures in 2010. Women under age 35 opted for less invasive procedures. The most common nonsurgical procedures for women under age 35 were Botox injections, hyaluronic fillers, microresurfacing and chemical peels. Men also saw their share of surgical and nonsurgical procedures last year, with Botox, hyaluronic fillers, microresurfacing and chemical peels.

Why the increase in non-invasive cosmetic procedures? Millions of American want a youthful look. People want to put their best foot, I mean face, forward these days with all of the competition in the workplace. More women (and men) want to age gracefully...and aging gracefully comes easier with a little help from their plastic surgeon, dermatologist or licensed skin care professional.

Cosmetic minimally-invasive procedures increased 5 percent in 2010. According to the ASPS website, he top five minimally-invasive procedures were:

Botox
Hyaluronic Fillers
Laser Hair Reduction

to tan or not to tan

Summer is coming to an end. Labor Day is almost here. We all want a healthy, bronzed glow, right? The sun and tanning beds are just not a safe way to get that bronzed glow though, they cause pre-mature aging and skin cancer, so what's the best way to get a tan? Get a Spray di Sole tan!!

I have been used sunless tanning products for years, some I like and some I don't, but I recently found the BEST spray tan, Spray di Sole by Cat K!! It's organic, non-toxic and looks so natural and amazing!!!

But there are a few tips to prep your skin to make your Spray di Sole OC by Cat K spray tan look better and last longer!! DNA Repair by Remergent used to be one of my favorite products but it isn't made anymore, so I was so excited when I found DNA Youth Recovery Serum and DNA Ceramide Renewal Cream. These products are the new improved version of the DNA Repair!!

The products basically help with repairing our skin's DNA that is damaged from everyday environmental stress, from pollution to sun exposure (hopefully you're wearing sunscreen)! We all have our must-have beauty or skincare products that we can't live without, the product that you go back to time after time because nothing is as fabulous!! I know I have mine.

One of my fav's that can't be replaced is Lancome's Cils Booster XL, which is a super enhancing mascara base that you apply before your mascara.

There is nothing else like it...it makes my mascara (which is Loreal Extra-Volume Collagen mascara) lengthen my lashes so much that people are always asking me if I use Latisse, which I'm not. I've used Lancome Definicils mascara in the past, but I really like Loreal's Collagen mascara better...and it's a fraction of the cost which is always fabulous!!

Do you want to get your skin glowing again? You can with a few tips from Dr. Oz's blog and a few product and treatment suggestions from me!

You don't need a spa vacation to give your looks a midwinter pick-me-up (but if someone gives you one, don't turn it down; or if you can't go, call us!). You don't even need an arsenal of products. Just get these basics right:

Watch what you're washing. You have an acid mantle (like cellophane) that forms a protective layer on your skin to inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi. If your skin loses this acidity, it becomes more prone to damage and infection. How do you lose the acidity? By washing your face with the wrong soap. Use pH-balanced soaps and cleansers. We like solid soaps because they tend to be made with a minimum of ingredients

I like CosMedic Skin Care's Gentle Foaming Cleanser (great for fragile/sensitive/normal skin), AFA Cream Cleanser (great for dry/aging/normal skin), iS Clinical Cleansing Complex (great for oily/acneic skin).

Add some A, but only at night. The vitamin A family, commonly called retinoids, can increase the actual water content of your skin without clogging the dead layer of cells (and making skin look dull). Retin-A contains retinoic acid and requires a prescription. Retinyl propionate, retinyl palmitate, and retinol (retinaldehyde) don't require a prescription. Ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun converts this to something that ages your skin, so go for vitamin A only after dark.

I like Retriderm Vitamin A Serums, which comes in three different strengths and can even be used on sensitive skin.

Exfoliate. Encourage new cells to grow by cleaning your skin daily or weekly with a light physical (feels gritty) or chemical exfoliant.

As we age, our dead skin sloughs off at a slower rate, so we need to use an at-home product as well as get professional exfoliation treatments. Sooo. I've been dying to tell you about this skin treatment I had a few weeks ago. Too fab! You've all probably heard of microdermabrasion, the process where you get a maximo exfoliation via a cool machine that uses crushed up crystals or diamond point to take the top coat off your skin & suck it up a little hose. Something along the lines of taking a sandblaster to your face. I have long been a major fan of it. In fact, I have had a microderm before every big event or special occasion, so that my skin looks smooth.

Well, there's a new sheriff in town, and his name is DermaSweep. And I have to say this is one of the most innovative, exciting things I've seen in a very long time! Its a similar principal - kind of - but that's where the similarities end. Dermasweep uses specially bevelled bristles to lift away dead skin. Unlike the particulate systems this doesn't scratch the new skin beneath it. Traditional microderm uses a pushing motion, Dermasweep utilizes a lifting motion, which actually promotes circulation leaving your skin more robust and glowing. This lifting motion not only takes away the skin debris, but cleans out all the pores at the same time.

There is a selection of bristle heads for the operator to choose from, so that even those with the finest, most delicate and sensitive skin can have this treatment and love it. Ladies with very fine skin have typically been exempt from traditional microderm treatments, but now they have an option too. The entire process is fully customizeable and can be personalized to provide the most inclusive skin care system in the world.

Traditional microderm leaves you with grit all through your hairline, inside your nose and in your ears, and frequently there is a peeling occuring a couple of days later, as well as day of treatment redness. So if you have an event you have to schedule a microderm several days out. With Dermasweep there is no grit on the skin, in the hairline etc, so you can have a treatment on the same day as your event. Which is exactly what actresses & musicians & celebs do on the day of award shows (think Oscars, Golden Globes, Emmys, Music awards) and major events. And if its good enough for them, its good enough for us! There is also no peeling and no redness. I can't even tell you how fabulous the skin looks after a treatment! I had mine three weeks ago now, and it is still absolutely glowing. (and I am soooo loving that!!!)

Dermasweep is a 2 part process. The second part of the process is an infusion. Depending on what your skin's needs are, the technician/aesthetician will create a cocktail of fabulous solutions (which are paraben free) to infuse deep into the skin with the machine. By reversing the vacuum they can send product significantly deeper into the skin than you can with a manual application.
